AMP Vehicles Making the Saturn Sky Electric

Advanced Mechanical Products, also known as AMP, will convert the Saturn Sky sports convertible to all electric power. They are currently taking pre-orders for the 300 cars they will produce. The total price of the car and conversion will come to about $50,000. The car will be able to go 150 miles per charge, at a max speed of 90 m.p.h. It will also be able to go zero to sixty in under six seconds.

AutoblogGreen also reports that AMP has plans to convert a Saturn SUV and Saturn sedan to all electric power.

I think this car is really going to shake things up. Driving to work today I passed the pump at $3.89, and that price is going to be quite shy of the 2008 average. I’ve been perusing their website and the statistics are just remarkable. I mean 150 miles on a charge; I only drive about 40 miles a day if that… you can’t beat 3 cents a mile. And I like that this car is priced at half that of Tesla, it’s less Tom Cruise and more Joe Everyman. Plus, it’s not just about the economics, it’s a statement driving a car like this.

This car really looks awesome. I’ve been interested in the electric car industry from day one. It cuts Tesla’s price by about half and unlike the electric Zen car this AMP is highway ready with a top speed of 90 mph. With gas prices expected to pass the 5$ threshold by 2009 this EV may well be the solution to our energy crisis. It costs about 3 cents a mile when you add up the cost of electricity it takes to charge it for 3 hrs. This car could drive me downtown and back at least 6 times; it definitely covers all my day to day.
